Christine Lyons wrote the following article for the NY
Daily News when she interviewed Terence
Guardino:
Get ready,
travelholics, we’re in for a treat - astrologically
speaking. The travel stars will be shining on us this
year (1996), opening up a whole new era. That’s the scoop,
according to stargazer Terence Guardino. “We’re heading
into a powerful new phase of international travel not
experienced since Columbus discovered America,” says
Guardino who does a travel astrology column and hosts a TV
show in L.A. “Global markets will boom; trade barriers will
come down; even stay-at-home Capricorns will be more on the
move.”
All this is
because the planets are lined up in a unique configuration
especially conducive to travel, says
Guardino.
Pluto, he
explains, after being under the influence of Scorpio for 11
dark and troubled years, is moving into the sign of
Sagittarius. It’s a golden time, travel wise, that
has not happened in 248 years.
At the same
time, Uranus will be moving into Aquarius, bringing a sense
of excitement, adventure and lust for the unknown.
Add that to the fact that Neptune will soon be joining
Uranus in Aquarius and you’ve got a three planet
configuration that has not occurred since Columbus laid
eyes on America. So you can imagine Guardino’s excitement
as he checks out the star charts for
1996.
“This
Pluto/Sagittarius combination will spark a tremendous
awakening in travel that will affect the whole world,”
Guardino exclaims. “That’s because Pluto, the god of
control, who brings sweeping changes and makes things
happen, will be hooked up into Sagittarius, the sign of the
curious globe-trotter, who is always searching and hungry
to learn.” The result: the age of
Sagittarius.
We’re
actually in for a dozen dynamite travel years, says
Guardino, because that’s how long Pluto will be linked up
with Sagittarius. He expects to see more people
traveling at faster speeds and lower costs to places that
we never expected to go before, like
Cuba.
In the 1996
travel horoscopes, the big winner will be
Sagittarius. Pluto will awaken in them intense
nomadic passions that may have been buried for years.
“They’ll be spreading their wings mentally and physically,
browsing through books on Borneo and trekking through
Nepal,” says Guardino. “They’ll be setting up
international business operations, relocating
abroad.”
But
Sagittarius won’t be the only ones affected by the
Pluto-Sag combination.
Aries will
be on the move almost as much as globe-trotting
Sagittarius. Guardino reasons that’s because Sag will rule
Aries’ ninth house, covering international affairs, imports
and exports and the like. So be extra-watchful if you find
you Aries sweetie studying a new language; he just might
fall in love with a foreigner and take off for parts
unknown.
Even
homebody Capricorns will kick up their heels this
year. But before you pack your bags for Phuket,
better check some other planetary action and see what the
planet Mercury is up to.
Mercury,
the messenger god, rules the third house of short-distance
travel. Problem is, three times a year in three week
stints, Mercury acts up a bit by going retrograde.
That’s an astrological phenomenon in which the planet looks
as though it’s moving backward rather than forward through
the solar system.
When this
happens, your meetings, schedules and best laid plans could
be up for grabs, warns Guardino. “Just look on it as
a time where Murphy’s Law is in force - if anything can go
wrong, it will.” he advises. “Plans may go amok, but
the results don’t have to be horrendous. Just spend the
time on vacation, where you might enjoy some
surprises.”
Be
cautious, though, about business travel. “Try not to lock
yourself into inflexible schedules,” counsels
Guardino. “And don’t travel to countries where you
might expect trouble.” Mercury will be retrograde Jan.
9-30, May 3-27, and Sept. 4-26, 1996.
