This
month could be stressful because of the recent Lunar
Eclipse June 26th when the effects can last a few weeks to
a few months and the Solar Eclipse on July 11th with the
effects lasting as much as a year. The solar eclipse is in
the sign of Cancer forming a Cardinal Grand Cross
configuration, a very difficult planetary alignment and not
all that common. I spoke about the affects of this eclipse
on my July video forecasts. What is going on in simple
terms is that the eclipse point is opposed or in a 180
degree from Pluto in Capricorn, and forming a 90 degree
angle to Jupiter and Uranus in Aries and the approaching 90
degree angle to Saturn and Mars in Libra. This Grand Cross
energy means that the different planetary forces are at
cross purposes with one another creating great pressure and
frustrations. Cardinal means forward action. There are 3
types of signs, Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable. The Cardinal
energy of the eclipse is trying to stimulate new
progressive energies over the next year but the Grand Cross
indicates the resistance and hence the intense pressures.
Think of those in political and corporate power who do not
want the voters holding them back with reforms. The
solution, as I mentioned in each monthly video clip is to
not fight the energy or engage in the stress and drama that
certainly will be triggered. If you can't look to the right
or left or forwards because there are planetary energies
resisting your efforts the solution is to stay in the
center, the center of the storm. In other words, this
intense period will pass but if you get caught up in the
stress and fears you will only become overwhelmed. It will
serve you better to not engage, but try to meditate or
reflect, and know that the storm of change will calm down
and some good will come out of it. This planetary pressure
could affect the world politically and economically but
also weather and earth changes; such as earthquakes or
volcanoes.
This solar eclipse is the harbinger of major social changes
that began in the mid sixties when Uranus and Pluto aligned
and was opposed by Saturn but soon was lost to apathy and
materialism. The end of July 2010 Saturn will again oppose
Uranus that last happened 45 years ago, which triggered the
world economic crisis. Uranus has just entered Aries in
tension to Pluto in Capricorn. When Uranus and Pluto
aligned in the sixties a new paradigm of social
consciousness was born but when these two planets form
their first 90 degree angle to each other is when the
passion of social and political unrest will be tested to
see if and where the world has evolved or retreated. This
test of Uranus Pluto is beginning this summer with the
solar eclipse energy but the exact angle does not form
until 2012 through the end of 2014. I believe these next
several years is waking up the consciousness of all people
around the world who will be demanding again the ideals of
equality, ecology and social freedoms fought for in the
sixties. Therefore I am excited that more people will be
insisting on a better world for all of us and doing
whatever it takes to actualize the vision and hopes of the
mid-sixties.

I
wanted to write about my new passion in studying Vedic
Astrology, also called Hindu or Eastern Astrology. First of
all, there is about a 70% overlap of similarities between
Western and Eastern Astrology. Vedic also uses houses,
signs and planets and for the most part they mean the same
things in the east as they do in the west. Of course, the
major difference is the sidereal zodiac versus the
tropical. Sidereal is based on the actual constellation
positions whereas tropical astrology is based on the
seasons or the positions of the Sun.
I did learn from my Indian teacher in New Delhi that my
Western studies would have been best for my personality and
mindset when I first studied because Western is better with
counseling and using intuition. My Vedic chart indicates
astrological talent but it's not as much with technique as
it's with my innate psychological perceptions and
intuitions that would not have been as useful for me
learning the Vedic system when I was young and not very
focused or mentally disciplined as I am today. Western
astrology utilizes more right brain perception and
intuition whereas Vedic astrology needs left brain analysis
to memorize hundreds of technical formulas before coming up
with a prediction.
What first caught my attention that I now understand is the
main reason that Western astrologers turn to the Vedic
system is with it's Dasha planetary periods. It is similar
to Western progressions but much easier to interpret the
whole life of a person. The Dasha system breaks down the
life cycle into 9 periods based on the 9 planets that
continues for 120 years. Your birth info determines the
first Dasha period and then each planetary period follows
consecutively for everyone. When I saw my different Dasha
periods I was amazed. It was a new way of looking at my
life at a glance. But to really interpret fully how each
Dasha period will affect the person takes a great deal of
studying, which is why I began my new journey. As an
example in my life, I was in my Jupiter period when I began
astrology professionally and later started my public access
tv show. Jupiter indicates knowledge, travel, media,
expansion and astrology. That cycle was 16 years and then I
entered a 19 year cycle of Saturn, the taskmaster when I
had to deal with many difficult realities of life from the
death of my parents and three important teachers to other
life challenges. But now i am recently in my Mercury Dasha
period when my Vedic studies began and that was all I
needed for the final confirmation because Mercury
represents communications, learning, curiosity. writing,
speaking as I am reading and studying more now than I have
since I was in my Jupiter cycle. Mercury also represents
details and Jupiter is more about the big picture and with
my current Mercury period I am very focused on studying all
the hundreds of details needed to be a Vedic astrologer and
my passion only seems to increase day by day.
Along with the amazing technique of the Dasha system, I
also really like how Vedic uses the Nodes more than in the
West and when I first began my Western studies I was most
fascinated by the Nodes but there was very little written
or taught, but Vedic astrology uses the Nodes as very
important karmic planets. And so my studies compelled me to
finally visit India, that I had always wanted to go but
resisted because of many fears that I have now realized
where mostly baseless. India is an amazing country with a
long and rich culture and I hope to return soon.
